Dingwall is a small town in Scotland, near inverness, and a former royal burgh, with population of just over 5000. Dingwall once functioned as an east coast port but now lies inland . The name Dingwall is derived from a Scandinavian word meaning meeting place. The Gaels name for Dingwall was Inbhir pheofharain meaning mouth of the Peffery.

Dingwall is situated just 14 miles north west of Inverness under the shadow of Ben wyvis (a mountain which dominates the local skyline). This busy town boasts around 450 local business with an enthusiastic business community driving it forward. Recent upgrades to the pedestrianised high street and the success of local football team Ross county in getting to the Scottish cup final have created a very positive buzz to this attractive market town.

Accommodation

The town provides an excellent base for outdoor enthusiasts wishing to exploit the vast potential of the highland region. Dingwall has comfortable and quality hotels and a good choice of bed and breakfast accommodation . There is also a camp site offering modern facilities for caravans.

Activities

The surrounding countryside offers a great variety of options whatever your outdoor interests. For a fun day out there is fishing 4×4 driving, mountain biking, shooting and walking, bird watching and a choice of golf courses within easy reach of the town. Not to be missed are the regular farmer markets held on the second Saturday of every month on Dingwall high street.

The people of the Highlands are well known for their hospitality and you will soon be made to feel welcome in the bars or cafes of Dingwall. The town offers a good variety of restaurants and cafes and enough bars and night time entertainment to ensure you enjoy your stay.

Travel

Being only 14 miles from Inverness Dingwall benefits from the local cities good travel facilities. Inverness has an international airport as well as bus and train routes connecting with all major routes in UK.

Train Station:Situated on station road just off ferry road and the high street the train station drops you in the heart of town. The station provides regular services to Inverness and the South. Dingwall station is part of the far North line which will take you to Thurso and the junction for Kyle of Lochalsh is situated in the town for those wishing to head west. 26 trains a day pass through Dingwall 14 of which will take you to Inverness.

Buses
